Water Storage

Water storage is a buffer

  • When your Clean Municipal water is disrupted, a Boil Order is issued, or your water gets turned off because a pipe needs repaired, you often just don't know how long the situation going to last.
  • Normalcy Bias, Stress and uncertainty is going to delay your reaction to knowing how best to respond to a water emergency.
  • Stored Water is essential for provident living.  It is vital to have safe stored water as a Bridge during uncertain and stressful scenarios.  It will give you buffer time to take stock of a certain situation and either coast until normal utilities are back online, or buy you time to set up your longer-term systems.
  • Immediately following a disaster, there are many urgent priorities (stress, medical conditions, needs for shelter and communication etc.) During this time,  you need to be able to fall back on stored water, Otherwise filtration also becomes an immediate emergency.

How Much?

  • ONE GALLON PER PERSON PER DAY FOR TWO WEEKS= Essential Drinking, food prep, hygiene (washing hands, brushing teeth, spongebath, wash hair etc. )
  • MORE THAN A GALLON is needed for children, nursing mothers, Elderly or those who are suffering Illness.
  • MORE THAN A GALLON is needed in very hot weather, very dry weather or unsanitary conditions, especially if high activity is needed in the heat.

"But I dont have the space to store water"

yes you do!

  • Ask for Guidance from the Lord. If it is a commandment a way will be provided.
  • Be Creative!
  • Don’t wait for a perfect situation, or new equipment.  Start with what you have right now
  • Anything is something. Start small and simple. Do ONE thing today.
do the best you can

you may already be storing water and you don't even realize it.
Already storing canned goods?  We are used to throwing this water away. But it is safe, consumable fluid!
Fruit - Use the water or syrup in oatmeal, cereal, pancakes, bread etc. Its a Great Sugar substitute.
Vegetables - Use in soup and pastas, savory bread etc.
Beans - bean syrup can be whipped into an egg-like substitute or fed to animals.
Experiment now and while you have internet resources! Knowledge and practice is invaluable and builds confidence.

Use wasted space
Fill any empty Jars you are already storing, with tap water (doesn’t need heat canned).  Dump out or water your houseplants when you need the jar.

Detergent container empty?  store water for cleaning.
These with the spigot make cheap and easy camp-sinks or hand washing units.

don't be surprised if some new ideas or spaces come to mind.

Storage Tips

  • Avoid storing plastic containers outside or near sunlight - UV degradation will occur over time.
  • Algae can grow in containers exposed to sunlight. especially clear ones, but even opaque ones.
  • Place on wood or plastic if storing on dirt or cement to avoid leaching.
  • Always use food-grade plastics that haven't been used to store anything toxic
  • Containers that are not appropriate to store water for consumption, can still be used to store water for cleaning (old detergent bottles) - Just mark clearly
  • Chemicals can be added for water storage, but if the water starts out clean (and city water already has chemicals) it may be sufficient - Chemicals can accelerate the leaching from plastic.
  • Do not store Distilled water for drinking - this is "Hungry Water" or "Dry Water" and will suck essential minerals from your body causing arthritis pain and other issues.   Distilled water is for batteries and machinery.
  • Do not use soft water to fill your storage - if you have soft water system installed, bypass the system when filling your water storage (house water spigot outside).
  • Store Hard water with no added chemicals (chlorine or iodine is reactive) which will enhance leaching in the plastic.
MILK JUG CONTAINERS ARE DANGEROUS FOR WATER STORAGE
  • The plastic used in Milk jugs is more oxygen-permeable than other food-grade plastics like PET (Soda Bottles) - air, odors and chemicals can seep in
  • Milk jugs are made for short-term single use and are designed to degrade
  • It is very difficult to clean a milk jug of all residue, including live cultures which hide in the porous plastic.

have a mindset to always be open to the lords instruction.  Move forward doing something new regardless if you are just beginning or have acted for a lifetime.

 “EMBRACE THE FUTURE WITH FAITH”
 - OCT 2020

“...Moroni never stopped physically or spiritually preparing his people. The adversary never stops attacking. The More self-reliant we are - Temporally, emotionally, and spiritually - The more prepared we are to thwart Satan’s relentless assaults.”

“I am not saying that the days ahead will be easy, but I promise you that the future will be glorious for those who are prepared, and who CONTINUE TO PREPARE to be instruments in the Lord’s hands.”
