This is not to persuade or dissuade the buying of products. But be aware of basic principles to discern what may or may not be right for you and the scenarios you imagine.
Beware the Black Box or silver bullet
Making Contaminate water safe to drink is more complex than anyone really realizes.
Its Complex, but not necessarily Difficult
The commercial market is eager to sell you a silver bullet.
They are either ignorant or unconcerned with ugly realities - they market to sell.
Real products that work are going to be expensive - but may not last long if used improperly.
Claims on a product are not as they appear. there are many commercials showing nasty water in, clean water out. this may work once or twice or a handful of times. But by the rules of how a filter works, this will not last long or be able to serve your family in a true emergency. The thousands of gallons marketing boasts are usually tested with clean tap-water.

This isn't about going out to buy stuff and storing it. What you know is more valuable than what you have. (but when you have that knowledge, you will realize there are some tools and supplies that you definitely want that you won't be able to get after the emergency starts.)

Proper maintenance will always be required, especially for any long-term solution (more than a week) especially the dirtier or more contaminated the water.

There is no ALL-IN-ONE solution (except for boiling water)

5-9 Stages will always be required in order to catch or neutralize all the various pathogens safely.
